Basics of Essential Oils

There is so much to know about essential oils! Let's keep it simple here with what they are, how are they helpful, and how we use them.

Now, let’s get something out in the open. I do not think that oils are the replacement for every single thing out there. I do use western medicine. I do use other holistic remedies such as hot tea and honey and apple cider vinegar. I do eat well and I do exercise regularly. But I also use oils as another very important aspect of keeping my body and mind healthy.
I love my oils and I use them every day to see the best benefits from them. We use them to support our immune systems, moods, skin, energy, and so much more. But please keep in mind I am also not a doctor or physician of any kind. I have a degree in science and I am diligent in my research and I feel a call to inform others. I’m so excited to share all of this information with you because I love empowering people everywhere to take charge of their health in a natural and safe way. So let’s get started!
What are Oils?
If you have every enjoyed the scent of a rose, then you have experienced an essential oil.
Essential oils are volatile, aromatic compounds that are derived from various plants through either distillation or cold pressing.
Volatile means they evaporate quickly, and aromatic means they have specific smells.
Essential oils are the parts of the plants that defend themselves against anything that is attacking the plant. They are also liquid soluble, which is great because that means they can enter our very own human cells!
How are oils helpful in the body?
Essential oils are so powerful in so many ways! They have been used in many educated research studies and have proven worthy enough to sit on the shelves of many renowned hospitals. They have the potential to affect every single cell in the human body within minutes of application. They are extremely efficient at moving through the body to reach the destination the oil is needed the most.
How do we use oils?
Topically. Aromatically. Internally.
There are three ways oils can be used: topically, aromatically, and internally. Each has its own benefits and an individual oil can have different benefits in the body depending on which way you use the oil. When you have a concentrated issue, such as a skin irritation, it is usually best to apply the oils directly to the area topically. Once the oils are absorbed into the skin, they will reach the bloodstream and can be distributed throughout the body. Because the oils are 100% natural they are recognized agents to the body, which simply means our body recognizes the oils immediately and knows exactly how to put them to use.
Let’s pause here. This is a major difference between pure essential oils and synthetic medication. Synthetic medication requires a process of breaking down the meds by systems in our bodies in order to use them for what they were intended. With essential oils, our bodies get straight to work immediately! No wasted time.
When our goal is to support hormones, behaviors, mood, immune systems, or the respiratory system, the best way to use oils is aromatically. This is my favorite way to use oils! The oils’ vapors are able to travel through the nose to the brain, which causes a complete positive change. We often use a diffuser which helps make just 2 or 3 drops of oil last for hours of benefits! Sometimes when I’m in a rush, I’ll simply drop the oil directly into the palm of my hands and inhale for immediate benefits if I don’t have a diffuser around. Then, I can even run my hands through my hair, which will also act a sort of diffuser.
Lastly, we can use oils internally. This can get controversial, but only for certain issues. I would only take doTERRA essential oils internally, as I know scientists outside of the company have rigorously tested each bottle and all the results are available to see at any time. These oils can change your life
I will forever shout it to the world that essential oils have changed my life. I know it sounds so dramatic but it’s true. Even with the scary list of things I spoke about above, I use my oils every single day confidently and with ease. I want to inform you of the risk of reaction because I want you to be knowledgable from the very beginning on how to use your oils wisely and how to avoid the reactions. Using oils is truly exciting and so empowering! I feel so much in control when something that I could do nothing about before (think environment threats like allergies, overall exhaustion, emotional stress, a sore throat, etc.) I now have a truly cost effective arsenal within arms reach that is safe and easily used naturally by our bodies.
God gave us the tools we need to heal ourselves in the short term and care for ourselves in the long term. There are already millions of people out there who have beautiful stories to share because of their positive experience with oils. Oils have helped my very best friend battle depression and anxiety. I know many moms who no longer feel helpless with their restless, teething babies. My own story, being able to support my immune system daily so my body is able to carry me through my big goals and dreams. Their stories are beautiful and so full of hope. What they have and what I have experienced is so attainable for every one of us wishing for change.
